Christmas Party Dressing

So I actually haven’t attended any Christmas parties thus far…how sad. My husband used to invite me to his big corporate nights out but now those are a thing if the past, and the closest I came to a party this year was office based fun in central Reading after a day of work, so not exactly prime dressing up opportunities.

However, had I attended the Christmas drinks with the firm I would have gone full glam. I had planned to wear a black side split midi skirt from M&S which would have elevated elegance to my usual your smart-casual work wardrobe. The pointelle midi skirt in question had a matching top which I planned on pairing with some nice black tights and some very high sling back stilletto’, also in black. I was going for the Sienna Miller Autumn wear vibe and the Metallic fibres creating an all-over sparkle would have made this outfit feel suitable festive, but still chic enough to recycle again at a non festive event.

I have worn some corkers over the years, such as a layered tulle dress with golden platforms, a shocking pink cocktail dress in satin with deep purple peep toes, and perhaps my favourite of all, last years black jumpsuit with cropped sleeves and silver stilettos. Each year once December comes around I find myself planning my outfits in order :Christmas party, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and any other social events that may crop up in between. I even have a separate rail in my house for these outfits, and quite often each event will have multiple choices so I end up creating a sequin and feathered capsule wardrobe for a month.

Actually, if I’m being honest, getting dressed for something as simple as doing the food shopping gives me pleasure. I don’t care if I am the most dressed up woman in the shop, It just makes me happy to wear what makes me feel good on that day. and so it should.

So what is it about Christmas parties that lets us let the fashionable cat out of the bag ? Is it an opportunity to get all dressed up? Is it a chance to wear something that hasn’t quite made it out of the Wardrobe yet? Or are you like me and simply enjoy piecing together looks and experimenting with different styles, particularly at Christmas when we can afford to be a bit more bold with our style.

Dressing for yourself means wearing what pleases you and makes you feel like the best version of yourself, and myself is rolled in sequins and glitter with lame and feathers and I don’t see that changing any time soon, So lets go out there this holiday season, and be fabulous!
