Oscars…

Lets talk about the Oscars. While I personally find the whole pantomime of the red carpet much more interesting than the awards themselves it cannot go unnoticed that this year, designers have spent more than ever before on dressing celebrities. We were treated to  appearances by quirkier, less traditionally glamorous brands such as Schiaparelli, Loewe and Balenciaga. Celebrities have wised up to the benefit of choosing fashion that not only looks good but makes a statement, giving us the ol' razzle dazzle and using their very stylish platform to push their various political agendas, giving online chat something to hook on to, darling, with many stars donned red Artists4Ceasefire pins, and various other pins for topical causes.

On a lighter note, we were treated to ultimately  one of the most memorable musical moments in the history of the Academy Awards, with Ryan Gosling resurrecting "I'm Just Ken" accompanied by many of his fellow Kens from the movie and iconic Guns N Roses guitarist Slash. I ask you, what's not to love about that?

But back to business, Here is just a quick breakdown of my thoughts and opinions of the 96th annual Oscars...

Zendaya

Zendaya chose an Armani Privé dress this year, bringing  Old Hollywood glamour. Her rose silk , or might be as bold to say wet look, dress featured an asymmetrical roped shoulder strap, with crystal corset, covered in an embroidered palm tree motif, serving us modern luxe. Accessorized with glitzy Bulgari jewels she is, after all, a face of the house, this was one of my favourate looks of the evening.

 Billie Eilish

Perhaps one of the more controversial looks of the night, Miss E arrived on the red carpet in a school uniform-inspired look, complete with white socks and Mary Janes. I can't be the only one getting a slightly "Heathers" vibe? I believe Chanel really did step outside their comfort zone with this look, and that not could have gone in a very different direction on anyone but Billie, but your girl pulled it off. Although I do not rate this look personally I feel Chanel very much put a new tongue- in -cheek twist on this ensemble, giving them a huge social media presence and gaining a legion on new fans

 Margot Robbie

Normally opting for pink on the red carpet  this awards season, lovely Margot  chose a black strapless sequin gown. Are we sick of pink? Most of the Barbie cast swapped pink for black this year, and Margot herself  arrived on the red carpet in Versace. Her silhouette not unlike barbie herself, but crossed with the draping of a Grecian goddess, this look goes to show that sometimes less is most definately more.

 Florence Pugh

This was a bold choice for Florence adn it completely paid off. The mixture of glam and punk was in perfect synchronisation with the slightly sheer, embellished corset and the silky skirt the balance was just right. Her sparkling custom gown by Del Core pays homage to her bejewelled character in Dune, Princess Irulan is in the building. With her signature feminine-punk aesthetic, simultaneously combining a sense of sophistication with a tough edge in her wardrobe miss Pugh has certainly found her sweet spot and I for one, am here for it.

Emma Stone

Wearing a fresh,  mint green strapless gown, complete  with a peplum , there is an overwhelming fresh feel to Emma's appearance this season. It is  rumoured that she is to be paid around $2m a year by Louis Vuitton, which dresses her for all major appearances, perhaps a slight regret this time around as the integrity of the garment was not quite our tempo this year, with the zip breaking as she walked to the stage. It's ok darling, no one noticed...

 Ariana

I want this blog to be a safe space, a place free of harsh criticisms and bitchy side notes, but I just did not get what Ariana was trying to achieve this year. I feel she was completely engulfed by this garment, and while the colour was cute and Oscar worthy, the cut was not. It has been dubbed the "Glinda" dress, a giant pink bubble if you will,  by Giambattista Valli that paid homage to her character Glinda. Thats all I have to say about that.

 Anya Taylor-Joy

Keeping it classic in crystal-encrusted silver gown by Dior Haute Couture, thee was something reminiscent of feathers about this dress. The colour? Spot on. The cut? Perfect? Did she completely own it and now I dream of owning a platinum dress? Yes I do. Which goes to prove - if it ain't broke, dont fix it. Dior always wins.

 John Krasinski and Emily Blunt

What can I say about the Krasinski's? They are 100% adorably stylish and I want to be their friend.

with the couple both opting for cream-coloured palette, Emily's chiaparelli dress was engineered with straps that levitated several inches above her shoulders, a nice out - of-box look, setting her aside from perhaps some of the more "safe" looks. She  does have a contract with Tiffany, and will be handsomely rewarded for modelling the 700-diamond necklace she wore to the ceremony.  She has come under fire though in thr press, with some critics dubbing the embellished front as resembling a pair of Y fronts, don't listen to them Emily, haters gonna hate.

 America Ferrera

Switched from team black to team pink for her red carpet look, rumoured to have taken the Versace team 10 attempts to find the perfect ink chainmail for this look. This is the first time we have seen America wearing the official Barbie colour, with Stylist Welch shared a video of Ferrera in the dress on Instagram, writing in the caption, "We thought we’d save the pink for last 💕 Versace pink that is!" what was not to love?

 Eugene Lee Yang

Making perhaps the boldest statement of the night, ELY came to slay. In a red ballgown-style skirt and a matching cropped suit jacket. He carried himself with the utmost poise. The  gown by Walter Mendez Atelier,  was accessorized with a few pieces of diamond-studded jewelry, and amazing cheekbones of course.
